The Honor Society of Sigma Pi Kappa

Sigma Pi Kappa, the international honor society for historic preservation students, faculty, and distinguished professionals, serves to promote, recognize, and reward scholarship and leadership achievement in academia and in the actual practice of historic preservation. Founded in May of 1991 at the University of Georgia, Sigma Pi Kappa is the only honor society focused specifically on historic preservation. In addition, Sigma Pi Kappa has been endorsed as the official honor society of the National Council for Preservation Education.

At Eastern Michigan University, the Kappa chapter of Sigma Pi Kappa was established on February 9, 2001. Those eligible for chapter membership include students who are in the last academic term of the Historic Preservation Program’s degree requirements while attaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.70 on a 4.00 scale.
