Friday 9/11/09 New Student Orientation 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

New Student Orientation is set for Friday, September 11th from 6:00 to 8:00PM at historic Sherzer Hall. It will be held in the fourth floor classroom. Dinner and refreshments will be provided.  Meet the faculty and fellow students as well as several guests who will give their wisps of wisdom on the ins-and-outs of the program, the graduate school, and EMU.

Returning students, as well as our new students, are welcome to join the alumni for their annual “Evening Under the Stars” dessert reception! It starts at 8:00 PM on the roof deck of Sherzer Hall.  Depending upon weather conditions, the Astronomy Department will let us view the sky with their telescope! Spouses and family are welcome to this event.

Sunday 6/28/2009 HPA / PE Diamond Jack Boat Tour of Detroit

Enjoy a two hour cruise on the sparkling waters of the Detroit River, the world’s busiest international waterway.   Passengers of all ages discover countless sights rich in history and anecdote during this expertly narrated river tour.
When:   Sunday, June 28, 2009, 1:00 p.m. departure time

Where:   Rivard Plaza, at the corner of Rivard Street and Atwater, two blocks east of the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit.  Look for the maritime merry-go-round on the water front (blue and white); if you’re there, you’re in the right spot!

Cost:

Students & friends $8.00 each (Note: *HPA will cover $5.00 each) 
Alumni & friends $8.00 each (Note: *HPA will cover $8.00 each)

Admission:   Boarding will begin approximately 30 minutes before departure.  The first people in line get the first choice of the best seats, so the earlier people get in line, the better.   HPA/PE space is limited; you must reserve your place with the HP Alumni Chapter info@historicpreservationalumni.com .   RSVP deadline June 12 th .

Food and Beverages:

Beverages and snacks are available for purchase on board.   Cash only.  

Outside food and beverages are NOT allowed on the boat.  

Parking:   There are several parking garages within a short walk of the Rivard Street dock surrounding the Renaissance Center.  Parking discount cards may be available during the tour.

Join the Historic Preservation Program and Preservation Eastern to honor the legacy of one of EMU’s architectural treasures while celebrating new friendships over some yummie nosh!!!!
 
Where: Strong Hall room 201 (Urban Planning Studio / Fishbowl)
When: Thursday April 16th at 4:00 p.m.

During this event we will participate in ‘This Place Matters’, a Photo-Sharing Campaign designed to celebrate the architectural and cultural significance of EMU’s King Hall. (For further information please see below)

Saturday April 4/4/2009 Networking Mixer

We are holding the Preservation Eastern Spring Networking Mixer on April 4, 2009 at the Leslie Science Center in Ann Arbor, MI from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.   This event gives current students an opportunity to meet and greet professionals in the fields of Historic Preservation  and Urban Planning in a less formal setting while learning about their learn about their job duties, experiences and insights.  Appetizers, food and beverages will be provided by Preservation Eastern.

A few important things about the Leslie Science Center:

The mixer will take place in the Nature House from 6pm to 9pm. All are welcome to spend time on the grounds and to enjoy the raptor center there.

The Leslie Science Center is part of a non-smoking campus.

This event is free for PE members and Alumni members. Please feel free to bring a spouse or a loved one, and ask them to make a small donation to PE in return!   All are welcome to bring wine, beer (please, no liquor) and desserts to pass. We will also be holding our second annual PE Raffle, filled with lots of fun goodies during the Mixer, so make sure to bring your checkbooks!

You could win a night on the town with Dr. Ted (yes, it’s true!), a fantastic antique, a survival pack for your trip to field school, there are many prizes in store!  And don’t forget! Ted’s  “Charlie the Tuna” lamp will be up again for some lucky person to win!  Be part of a new PE tradition and take Charlie home for a year!  

These Networking Mixers are an important part of our network of professionals at EMU, and we thank you ahead of time for considering being a part of this wonderful event.
