Green Builder, Thomas Hirsch (you may have heard him at last Fall’s Networking Mixer) will present to the students of Preservation Eastern. He is a green builder from the Traverse City area who has started his own company, Green Builders. Come listen to his presentation and learn how green building and preservation can go hand in hand! The presentation is in Room 300 of the Halle Library from 4-5pm on March 23, 2010.

Mark your calendars for Friday, February 19 at 2pm for a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Affleck House in Bloomfield Hills! The 2,350-square-foot Affleck House is one of Wright’s smallest commissions in terms of size and was considered a home for a family of modest means. A construction model was displayed in the Museum of Modern Art prior to its completion in 1941. In 1978, Affleck House was donated to Lawrence Tech by Mary Ann Lutomski and Gregor P. Affleck, the children of the original owners, Gregor and Elizabeth Affleck. Please RSVP to preservationeastern@gmail.com if you plan on attending. Car pooling will be from EMU’s campus to the site.
Preservation Eastern is having EMU’s Career Services put on a resume workshop on February 18 at 4pm for all students soon to graduate, looking for summer internships, or just wanting to boost their resume. The workshop will be held at the Halle Library in Room 302 at 4pm!
Come hear a panel discussion of postwar Pre-Fab housing at Eastern Michigan University’s Halle Library, in room 300. The presenters are Mr. Jeff Green, planner for the City of Monroe and adjunct instructor in our HP program at EMU, has done research on prefab housing (some was manufactured in Monroe), Mr. Brian Williams, with the University Archives and Records Program at Bentley Historical Library, recently wrote an article about Postwar Prefab Housing for the Old West Side News in Ann Arbor, and Ms. Beverly Komarek, Executive Director, Barton County Historical Society, who has knowledge about Lustron housing. The presentations start at 4:15pm. Please come and join us!
